Clinical Experience

Geraldine qualified in 1976 from the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with a Diploma in Remedial Gymnastics & Recreational Therapy. In 1985 she became a member of the Chartered Society Society of Physiotherapy and attained a BSc degree in Remedial Science in 1987 from Westminster University, London. She later studied at University College London, attaining an MSc degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 1996.

Prior to her graduation she worked at various teaching hospitals and spinal injuries centres in South Wales and Scotland. Following her graduation, she completed all major medical and orthopaedic rotations and specialist fields, at Leicester General Hospital. Geraldine went on to specialize in orthopaedics, major injuries and burns, taking on a senior role at the Birmingham Accident hospital. Following this she took up a senior and superintendent role, at two renowned Medical Rehabilitation Centres – Garston Manor MRC, Watford and Camden Road MRC in London. At this stage in her career, she specialised in orthopaedics, rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, sports injuries and acute trauma. In 1987, Geraldine became a lecturer on the BSc Physiotherapy degree course at The Middlesex Hospital School of Physiotherapy, University College London. During this time she attained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (with distinction) and a Diploma in Teacher of Physiotherapy (DipTP) awarded by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. After 5 years, Geraldine took up an appointment at Brunel University, as senior lecturer in BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy degree. Geraldine was course leader in Biomechanics, Kinaesiology, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (incorporating manual physiotherapy skills and therapeutic and sports massage), Rehabilitation and Hydrotherapy. She was also senior lecturer in anatomy, pathology, orthopaedics and trauma.

Clinically, Geraldine is a specialist in biomechanical analysis of injuries and dysfunction, spinal and lower limb injuries and dysfunction.

Sports Physiotherapy:

Geraldine is an Olympic, GB and England Sports Physiotherapist. During her time at both universities, Geraldine was actively involved in sports at elite level. She was physiotherapist to Ealing Womens National League (outdoor and indoor) hockey champions for a number of years and later became physiotherapist to England Womens hockey attending GB, World cup and European cups. Geraldine was also Director of two Sports & Dance Injury Clinics in High Wycombe and Brunel UC – treating many top sports men and women, including football players from Chelsea, Wimbledon and Manchester City, Olympic, GB and England hockey players and Ballet Rombert dancers. She has also been involved with Rugby, including Henley Hawks and Henley Rugby Sevens as physiotherapist to the Fijian and Portuguese sides. Geraldine has also assisted the lead physiotherapist of England Universities Rugby, at rugby trials and national matches at Twickenham, Cardiff and Bristol.

England Womens Hockey and GB Hockey : Chief physiotherapist to the England Womens Hockey team for 5 years, attending, World Cup, European Cup, 4 Nations and international events.

England Womens and Mens Hockey Vets: physiotherapist at the World Championships in Holland.

National League Hockey – physiotherapist to Ealing Women’s National league Hockey team, who were national champions for a number of years. With this team she travelled all over the country and Europe covering Field Hockey, Indoor hockey tournaments and Europeans Hockey Clubs Championships.

Rugby: Henley Hawks and Henley Rugby Sevens – Fijian and Portuguese sides. England Universities Rugby: rugby trials and national matches at Twickenham, Cardiff and Bristol.
